Embrace Life in black and white

A demonstrator group that I'm apart of SUDSOL offers lots of challenges to keep your creative mojo going. I decided this week to take part for the first time in the Design Challenge which was to use only black and white and you could use a touch of color. This also fell right in line with a swap I'm in at CardSwappingForFun that is called POP of Color, it's a black/white card with a POP of color somewhere on the card, so these two worked together perfectly, nothing better than killing two birds with one rock (by the way I hate that saying, don't know why I used it???)

As a side note I was sure this challenge would be easy to do as I love very clean simple cards, but using only the black and white was much harder than I anticipated! The front is stamped in Craft White ink using the Embrace Life stampset and grosgrain ribbon is added for a beautiful touch of color. On the inside the same stampset is used but stamped on Whisper White with Basic Black ink, I used the three flower punch to add a couple of little red flowers. I was happy with the end result even though it was harder than I thought, I hope you enjoy it to.

Card Stuff:

  • Base Card - 4" X 4" in black

  • Layers - White 3-7/8" x 3-7/8", stamped black layer - 3-3/4", inside layer Whisper White 3-7/8" X 3-7/8"

  • Flowers - Real Red

  • Stamp - Embrace Life

  • Ink - Craft White, Basic Black

  • Accessories - 5/8" grosgrain, punch, heat gun

Big thanks for visiting the blog, come back any time!

Just Buzzin' By..........Birthday

Hello to anyone still left who might be checking out my blog. I decided to switch back to my blogspot blog because it is free and FREE is good :) It's been a busy time, I was lucky enough to get to visit my happy place which is Walt Disney World in December. As always it was a good time but ever so tiring. WDW is for only the fittest of people and it is truly the Happiest Place on Earth but it is ALOT of hard work and I was worn out when we returned. Now I'm busy dreaming of my next trip with of course a vow to be better prepared physically before I go again (I've made that promise before, but who knows there is a first for everything!!)

Anyway, back to our regularly scheduled show, crafting, I've got a card for you today with SU! new set "Just Buzzin' By" what an adorable set, the more you work with it the better you like it. I made this card for a swap I'm in with a crafting group called CardSwappingForFun, it's a great group! Our topic this month was Birthday cards and this is the one I came up with.

It is a normal 4.25X5.5 size card but the fold is at the top instead of the side. I used More Mustard CS for the base with patterned DSP for the layers, they are Old Olive and More Mustard. The hive is stamped with black stazon on watercolor paper and then colored with SU markers and blended with the aqua pen. The cute little Bee fellow is also stamped with Black Stazon on watercolor paper and colored with the SU markers and blended with the Aqua Pen, he is nested on a Old Olive circle which is then nested on to a Close to Cocoa Scalloped Circle. Both the hive and the little Bee are popped up using demensionals. The bottom edge of the More Mustard base and the Olive DSP are both punched with the Scallop edge punch. The sentiment "Just Buzzin' by to say......" is stamped in Chocolate Chip in Close to Cocoa card stock. A matching strip of patterned DSP is put on the inside of the card for the scallop edge to set on. I've added Old Olive eyelets at the top and Close to Cocoa eyelet on the bottom right to finish off the card. I didn't photo the inside but it will say "Happy Birthday" and will have a little matching Bee fellow on the inside too.

Card Details:

  • More Mustard 5.5X4.25

  • Patterned DSP Old Olive 4.25X3.5

  • Patterned DSP More Mustard 3.75X2.75

  • Hive Cut out colored at popped up using watercolor paper

  • Word window punch for "Just buzzin' by to say........"

  • Bee Close to Cocoa Scallop Circle punch, Old Olive Circle punch 1.5", watercolor paper w/Bee on 1.25" circle punch

  • Scallop edge punch on bottom card base and Old Olive layer

Will that's it for today. Sorry to have been away so long I'll try to do a much better job of posting. Thanks for looking!
